Thousands to Lose Medicaid Coverage With Work Rule, Ohio Says (1)

Roughly 35,000 Ohioans will lose Medicaid coverage under a 20-hour-per-week work requirement the state is developing, Department of Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran estimates.

One-third of the approximate 109,000 to 119,000 individuals who currently receive Medicaid coverage and will be subject to the rule would no longer receive coverage, Corcoran said during House testimony April 30.

The estimate is nearly twice the state’s 18,000-person figure included in its application for a federal waiver to enact the work requirement. The Department of Medicaid didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about how it reached this figure and how many people would .
